How long have you been a client of JUMP START?

Since October 2006

Why did you originally start?

For years I’ve known that I needed to get fitter and lose weight, but I put off doing anything about it. Then I got a Jump Start flyer through the door. I told myself I would give it 6 months and if it didn’t work for me, at least I would have given it a go. I passed the 6 month mark without a backward glance, as not only is it ‘working for me’, each session I do gives me a buzz for the rest of the day.

What do you enjoy best about JUMP START?

Being outdoors is a big positive – I used to hate going to gyms that were always packed and had constant music videos playing.  But also the people – the trainers are friendly, knowledgeable and very motivating.

What goals have you achieved?

I’m certainly a lot fitter– I remember my first group session when I was exhausted after just the warm-up! I have more strength and stamina, my boxing technique is continuously improving and I’m even getting a bit better at running (my own personal demon). On top of all this, I have lost 15 kg since I joined ;-) .

What types of sessions do you participate in?

A weekly group session with Rose, a weekly Fit2Box session and I’ve also just started a weekly Walk2Trot session.

Is there anything in particular that has helped you reach your goals?

The constant encouragement and motivation from the trainers. If I was doing the same exercises in a gym on my own, there is no way I would push myself as hard, and there’s no way I would achieve as much.

What are your goals for the future?

In the short term, I’d like to be able to run uphill - I still haven’t managed to run all the way to the top of Park Avenue hill without stopping! Continued weight loss is another, of course – still some way to go on that front ;-) But on the fitness side, there’s no one final goal in sight. I just want to keep getting fitter and maintain what I have achieved.

Any advice for people thinking of starting a health and fitness program?

Don’t procrastinate like I did! The sooner you start, the sooner you start to see and feel the difference and to enjoy it. I can’t believe I left it so long to start something that is enjoyable.
