How long have you been a client of JUMP START?
Since May 2001
Why did you originally start?
Because the only fitness I was doing was running and I was
getting bored with this.
What do you enjoy best about JUMP START?
There are two things:
The variety – I love turning up not knowing which park I will be training at that morning.
The challenge – I find I don’t always push myself as hard as my trainer will push me.
What goals have you achieved?
Lost >5 kgs in weight, cut 2 minutes off my fitness test (cardio) time, improved in every test area of my fitness (sometimes by >100%.)
What types of sessions do you participate in?
2 x small group sessions each week, plus 3 Vitality Challenges
Is there anything in particular that has helped you reach your goals?
Persistence – there are plenty of times when it would have been easier to hit the snooze button and go back to sleep or “take a break” altogether and let’s face it, you will not always feel great at 6am in the morning – particularly in winter. But, by hanging in there, you retain the core fitness you have built and you are then positioned better to improve on it.
What are your goals for the future?
To walk the Kokoda track – for the history and the challenge - I’ve been told it’s like climbing on a stepper machine for 8 hours a day for 7 straight days.
Any advice for people thinking of starting a health and fitness program?
Set goals, review, reward and reassess them regularly. Make it part of your routine and get through the winters – even if you don’t want to go, just push yourself and you won’t regret it.
