How long have you been a client of JUMP START?
Since August, 2000
Why did you originally start?
I needed a lot of motivation to make me exercise regularly and the idea of someone organizing this part of my life sounded really great. At my initial assessment by Heidi, it was found that I had very high blood pressure, so what better motivation did I need to get my health and body sorted out? It didn’t take me very long to decide that Jump Start was just what I needed - I have never looked back.
What do you enjoy best about JUMP START?
So many things…………the commitment to a regular fitness regime, exercising outdoors, the fun and companionship that I have shared over the years (laughing with friends when push-ups seem just impossible) and achieving goals which once, I thought, I NEVER could do and……. most importantly, to keep me motivated, the continual enthusiasm by the Jump Start team.
What goals have you achieved?
I now feel the fittest & healthiest that I have in my life. I feel less stressed, my body more toned and my blood pressure is controlled – these were just some of the goals that I set for myself back in 2000!! On two occasions, I have been a member of the Jump Start Round Island Relay Team in Vanuatu and for someone who had hardly ever run in her life, this was probably my biggest achievement – a great experience!
What types of sessions do you participate in?
At present I do buddy and walk-to-trot sessions, but my routine can change according to what active holidays I need to prepare for, so have also participated in personal training and group sessions, which are always fun!
Is there anything in particular that has helped you reach your goals?
Without doubt, the commitment to a regular exercise programme along with the friends and trainers who have shared this with me.
What are your goals for the future?
One that I have been working towards is coming up next month when I hope to complete a sixteen day challenging walk of over 300kms along the Coast-to-Coast route across Northern England……… a few years ago I would never even have contemplated such an adventure!!??
In July next year, a Jump Start team will once more compete in the Round-Island Relay in Vanuatu – yet another challenge, but I would love to be part of that group again. So…….another goal!! I need goals – they make life more exciting and challenging.
Any advice for people thinking of starting a health and fitness program?
It is hard at first, especially when you don’t feel like exercising and it is more comfortable to be a ‘couch potato’ (I agree), but commitment to an exercise programme and a healthier lifestyle can change your world. The healthier and fitter you become makes it all easier; exercise becomes a way of life – it is definitely worth the effort.
P.S. Thank you to all at Jump Start (especially Heidi & Manuel) for your continuing encouragement and support – you have helped make the journey so worthwhile.
