How long have you been a client of JUMP START?

2.5 years

Why did you originally start?

Build body strength to assist in overcoming a long term back injury; get fit enough to walk up the stairs without puffing; rebuild body flexibility; and finally lose some weight.

What do you enjoy best about JUMP START?

The Jump Start family – both trainers and clients. The fun atmosphere and the seriousness given to addressing each clients issues.

What goals have you achieved?

I’m much stronger in the body and (touch wood) have in the last 12 months substantially reduced the incidence of problems with my back injury.

I’m a lot fitter and as long as there aren’t too many stairs I can get up without collapsing. Finally I’ve reduced in size (although there’s still a lot more of me to reduce) and I’ve lost some weight.

What types of sessions do you participate in?

Initially I did one on one sessions but in the last year have switched over to buddy and sometimes groups. I particularly like the buddy sessions which can be both supportive and competitive. I suspect I work harder in the buddy sessions that I did in the one-on-ones.

Is there anything in particular that has helped you reach your goals?

The assistance from the Jump Start team with motivation has been a great help by modesty.

What are your goals for the future?

Continue regular exercise every week and maintain and build my body strength and general fitness. Keep progressively losing weight in small amounts and keep the weight off long term.

Any advice for people thinking of starting a health and fitness program?

Jump Start is a good place to begin. Set lots of small goals as well as 1 or 2 big ones. Don’t let the setbacks overwhelm you. If you haven’t been into physical exercise for a while get ready for the shock and then get ready for the fact that you’ll discover you’re enjoying it.
